New for January 2012

We are thrilled to announce our new partnership with CR Gibson, a paper and licensing guru since the late 1800s... Born out of a family business, CR Gibson has been showing at the National Stationery Show since it's inception almost 70 years ago.
Although CR Gibson has been around a while, it is currently been injected with explosive change! All for the better. President Laurie Gilner is amazing in her ability at the helm of this old ship, and has re-energized, re-surged and crafted a wonderful backbone for smaller brands and artists like myself. I have had an ongoing relationship with CR Gibson with a Tina Givens license, and we have developed mass market product with much success.
Cid Pear operates in a whole new way, and as Laurie says, in a 'Brand's New' Way... in that the Cid Pear paper collection has been allowed to maintain it's high end quality in papers and production! I collaborate and design the products and packaging, hand select the papers and watch over the printing techniques ~ thus we have a uniquely crafted and high end collection of papers like we always have done.
I couldn't be more pleased. If you are a Cid Pear retailer (globally) you will be receiving our beautiful catalog in the mail along with the core CR Gibson catalogs. So watch for it, you're gonna love it.

The New Year is around the corner....

I can't believe how time flies! My baby twins are eight years old... my eldest we adopted when he was 7 and he's now in college.... a young man... a wonderful young man I might add! Cid Pear is 7 years old... and I am getting oh so wise! Ha! Never!
Stationery has played such a wonderful role in these last years... it's been a busy 8 years or so and fabulous! We moved in there somewhere from the mid-west to the south... we've truly watched my husband's career twist and turn through waves of economic raves and waves... and our aging parents have gone through enormous changes! Retirement, moves, and spending time with those little noisy people they call grand children!

So my folks and sister just left this morning after celebrating, cooking a load of wonderful food and watching many movies when the power was on! Yes, here in Raleigh we were dumped upon... 8" or so and we are not used to all that puffy white snow! It was gorgeous...
The kids had a ball! And the boys were rough stuff with the dogs outside! The dogs had smiles and carried their balls around all weekend long! Cute as can be!

So I wish you all a wonderful end of the year, a super New Years Eve and celebrate with 2011 in mind! We are so lucky to be here and together with our friends and family, with food and Christmas trees in our homes, and warmth and love... Keep healthy, and keep your loved ones close.

Pink Ornaments

I collect vintage pink ornaments... some of them may have been red and have faded over time... even better because some are pink, some are peachy pink and some are rosey. I love them because they have patina-ed over the years. This year I actually found a couple of boxes that were not even opened from 1940s, and they are delicious! Mine are either on the 'stick' tree Mel and I painted and glittered, or they sit in an enormous apothecary jar... I added vintage beads around the top and an old rosary! Did I mention the violet feather bird that tops it all...

Like the Tiffany box the Hermes box is completely iconic and amazing in color. I think I'm going to have to paint a Hermes box like I did the Tiffany which does very well on our invites and notes. Gingeroni: Vintage Inspired Jewelry

Every now and then I find a talented artist in the fabulous site, etsy. Here's this months favorite.

Gingeroni

Her name is Kathi from Peoria Illinois, and her husband sadly is ill with "Lou Gerhig's Disease " so she takes care of him and in her spare time she nutures her creative soul by making these gorgeous and happy little pieces. Kathi has been an etsy store since 2006 and has over 200 items in her store. She creates vintage inspired jewelry and believes that each piece tells a story. Using beads, crystals, gem stones, glass and filligree, she creates very sweet necklaces, rings, earrings and hair clips. I love her groupings and she has a great eye in taking her photos for the etsy site. Well done Kathi from Illinois.

Artist: J Morgan Puett

Back in the early 90s I was introduced to an amazing clothing collection by a woman I'd never heard of, J. Morgan Puett. The clothes were extraordinarily free and beautiful in soft natural fibers including linen and washed silks... she'd dye everything too, so the colors were muted and earthy gorgeous. If you've met me, I am sort of ant-trend in my clothing.... I tend to wear loose long linen dresses with oxford boots, several layers of scarves and long necklaces... always a pearl or string of pearls.

I got many requests for this sewing pattern...

Anyway, so I fall in love with the J M P line and the next time I went to NY I had to stop in her, then Soho studio (then moved to Tribeca, which was a likely move because she is not what you'd call a 'commercial' artist and designer). Well, her studio was a dream for me. Within utilitarian rustic cement walls, she collects pieces of NY implements and artifacts ~ sort of a museum type retail experience, the store was accented with installation-inspired art. An amazing store, with hard cement counters and metal beams. The sewing machines were upstairs in a balcony overlooking the shop downstairs, and you could hear the low buzz of their work.

She had curtains outside of the shop and of course a beautiful metal shaped signature dress as her store sign. I was in heaven. She was not there unfortunately, but her staff were wonderful and wrapped my purchases in brown paper with a raw burlap string! Perfect.

Inspired I'd found a designer and clothing I absolutely loved... she decided to go 100% retail and not offer through my local fabulous shop her found her. Oh no... so every time I went to NY I took a b-line to the store and found my favorite delights. Eventually it was offered online and now can be offered on ebay....

A little history on J Morgan Puett ~ she received her Masters in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1985. From 1993-1997 she ran her business which she names as a multi-disciplinary project taking the form of a small business in New York's SoHo, and other collaborative ventures with artists and designers; from 1998-2001 she collaborated on a New York-based experimental, retail-clothing manufacturing project. Her art has recently been shown at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, and Wave Hill Glyndor Gallery, New York; she is currently working on a collaborative project with Mark Dion for the Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia. In 1997 she actually moved to establish an artists' colony in Pennsylvania. It continues to evolve today. It's called Mildred's Lane on almost 100 acres, and is a modern take on simpler times. Everything is truly a simple way of life but she styles everything in her signature baroque alchemy. Silver, glassware, vintage fabrics, gorgeous luggage. Her fridge shelves are covered in old table cloths (the cold preserves them!) The main house is built from local wood and is amazing with a sleeping porch, hinged pop-up windows and slated wood walls feel as though you're in a treehouse!

Surrounding the house are small outbuildings were artists and writers can stay plus an old barn housing the petrified clothing archive. Mildred Miller by the way was the former owner of the property and she lived in an old 1830s house that still remains, she lived there until her death in 1986. Puett named the colony after her.

Puett's life by her own words 'is art'. Being is my practice - eating, making, building.'

She's against throwing anything away and resuses everything from her wool jacket wearing it upside down, her dressing room tent from a store, now hanging over the bed as a canopy, she readapts old things into new. A nightgown becomes a table cloth, flour sacks slip-cover the dining room chairs. Obviously a collector, she and her best friend 'Peabody' collect things all year round and then give them to eachother at Christmas time. In fact I was in her first store and along the back wall were these beautifully simple wrapped brown packages with string, all with her name on them. I asked what they were, and the ladies informed me 'Oh those are Peabody's gifts to her from his trips around the world!' Hmmm....

Puett cleans with delight. It takes her a week to clean the house and she loves doing it because she rearranges everything... forever emerging, unfinished....

I have always loved the internet and since it's early years (I sound so old) have been an advocat of what it can do for each of us both personally and professionally. Well, crazy? you say... and I agree. So www.cidpear.com is being revamped to not only show off our lovely stationery collections including my signature line, TG stationery, but also beautiful Jewelry from the amazing Laurie Lenfestey, Bittersweet Designs... I am wearing one of her pieces right now; naturally kids apparel starting with the Biscuit and Poppet collection, other beautiful paper companies, some magical home goods including over-sized cushions in striking color and combinations... and of course other paper products.... I have personally hand-selected these items, created some and delighted in the magic of them all.

Cid Pear has always been primarily a wholesale company of paper products, but I am anxious to take our retail site to the next level... and this will bring you closer to my products, and I am able to selfishly share what I love too.
Did I mention some of my fabrics and sewing patterns will be available in the Craft area? Yes, due to popular demand I am bringing you my studio cuts of fabrics and patterns from my own stash. And lastly, we are creating a new and fabulous Wedding Luxe program exclusively on cidpear.com with a la carte invitation suites and other papers for picky brides... Of course you can select matching fabric in cottons and voiles for your bridesmaids and flower girls... we also offer seamstress services to custom make our flower girl dresses and tea coats for those special little girls...

It is amazing to me that so many years have gone by. Cid Pear was actually created back in 2000 when I was wondering around after my corporate career deciding what I was going to do with the rest of my life. I was a new mom to a 7 year old, whom we adopted, my life had been turned upside down (like in every family with a new child), and my creative spirit was going crazy! I needed that creative outlet so to speak, and so low and behold I started taking a Millinery Course... you know the making of hats...

Falling into the hands of a beautiful person, Donald at Virgina Marty Fashion Institute in Cleveland Ohio, this man sparkled with energy and joy. Teaching us to block straw and felt forms into beautifully shaped hats. No glue, all hand stitched in couture technique... I learned from the master. He was a milliner with Balenciaga back in the 60s in NY... How lucky was I in this little local neighborhood school to find him and his trade. I must reconnect with him since I am working on hats now...fast forward, it's 2010.... for one of my licensors, Dept 56. You just wait and see what I have in store people!

All this hat stuff was refreshed when I recently did what's called a 'schoolhouse' at quilt market in Houston at the last International Quilt Market. This is where 100+ folks gather in a conference room and listen to me babble on for half an hour. So I thought I'd share a slide show with them and we had a few giggles... yes a few of my hats were in the presentation.... they are shown above.....
